Over the past 15 years, our team members have been involved in a variety of social impact management fields across a range of industries, including Oil & Gas, renewable energy, mining, energy generation and distribution, and mixed land use development. Below is a selected overview of our most recent project experience.
East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), Tanzania
The EACOP project involves the construction and operation of an underground, cross-border pipeline to transport crude oil from the Lake Albert Development in Uganda to a marine export terminal in Tanzania, near Tanga Port on the East African coast. A consortium of companies under the leadership of Digby Wells Environmental was appointed to develop a Resettlement Policy Framework and Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs) for the regions that form part of the Tanzanian section of the EACOP project. Our team is involved as sub-consultants in developing the various RAPs for the Tanzanian Regions.
Leeuwpan Lifex Extension Project, Mpumalanga, South Africa
The Leeuwpan Lifex Extension Project is one of the mine extension projects of Exxaro Resources in the Mpumalanga region. The project aims to extend the life of mine of the existing Leeuwpan Colliery. A non-landowning community needed to be relocated to make way for the proposed extensions. NLN Consulting acted as sub-consultants to assist with data gathering, community liaison and RAP revision on the project. We have also subsequently been tasked with developing the Stakeholder Engagement Plan for the project.
Bauba Platinum & BaPedi National Trust Social Investment Initiatives, Mpumalanga, South Africa
Bauba Platinum and the BaPedi National Trust seeks to formalise their local economic development spend in their mining affected communities in the Greater Tubatse/Fetakgomo Local Municipal area. Due to the rural nature of the project area, existing infrastructure and services are limited and thus services such as roads, power and water supply will need to be upgraded (where possible) or developed. NLN Consulting acts as specialised consultants for Futurelead who are managing the development of these two entities’ Social Investment Strategy, which consists of various community development implementation plans aimed at different target groups.
Kalgold Expansion Project, Mahikeng, Northwest Province
Kalgold mine is an open pit mining operation located some 60km from Mahikeng in the Northwest Province. Harmony Gold is currently investigating three options to exploit the mining reserve, thereby increasing the production capacity and the life of mine. NLN was appointed as specialist sub-consultants to undertake the Socio-Economic Impact Assessment as part of the mining right application.
